About the Committee

The Committee of Scientific Ethics corresponds to a collegiate body of a regulatory nature and is dependent on the rectory of the university, it is subject in its functions and attributions the institutional regulations and norms, compliance with national and international standards and recommendations and legal norms established in the legal framework.

OBJECTIVES OF THE COMMITTEE

  • To evaluate, from the ethical, bioethical and biosafety perspective, the development of research projects in human beings, clinical trials, research on animals and other living organisms, sponsored by the University of Magallanes and the Institutions that request it.

  • To safeguard the rights and dignity of research subjects in the field of human research, ensuring compliance with national standards, international consultations and the current legal framework.

FUNCTIONS OF THE SCIENTIFIC ETHICS COMMITTEE

1. Conduct the Ethical evaluation of research projects that are sponsored and / or sponsored by the University of Magallanes where human beings, animals or other living organisms participate.
2. Monitor the sponsored research projects, sponsored and evaluated by the Scientific Ethics Committee of the University of Magallanes.
3. Inform about the authorization, rejection or conditional approval of the sponsored research projects, sponsored and evaluated by the Scientific Ethics Committee of the University of Magallanes.
4. Suspend research projects that do not meet the minimum ethical requirements for their execution.
5. Inform the University Authorities and researchers of the specific regulations that must be met by the different units in the field of ethics, bioethics and biosafety associated with the field of research.
6. Inform investigators of the minimum documentation that must be submitted to review a research project.
7. Convene researchers or experts when necessary to provide information deemed necessary for the approval of the project.
8. Have access to the complaints of probands and other instances of complaints during the development of a research project.

TIMETABLE OF ATTENTION AND RECEIPT OF DOCUMENTS

Monday to Friday from 09:00 to 13:00 hours in the morning, and from 15:00 to 18:00 hours in the afternoon.
